The key drivers for demand are construction, automotive and appliances.
Zinc is used mainly in galvanising, brass and diecasting.
Zinc demand has been solid for the past 10 years. The fundamentals are very strong.
Economic growth in India and China is expected to consume a growing percentage of world output. China now consumes over 20% of world zinc.
Supply is below demand which has led to a rapid rise in prices from $1200 a tonne in 2003 to almost $3500 a tonne in early 2007.
Demand is expected to exceed supply for some years.
