- The key drivers for demand are construction, automotive and appliances.
- Zinc is used mainly in galvanising, brass and diecasting.
- Zinc demand has been solid for the past 10 years. The fundamentals are very strong.
- Economic growth in India and China is expected to consume a growing percentage of world output. China now consumes over 20% of world zinc.
- Supply is below demand which has led to a rapid rise in prices from $1200 a tonne in 2003 to almost $3500 a tonne in early 2007.
- Demand is expected to exceed supply for some years.
