Moate Block

The Moate Licence Block that has been recently awarded to Connemara consists of four non-contiguous prospecting licences covering an area of approximately 137.72km2 of County Westmeath close to Athlone. The cluster of licences are located approximately 40km northeast of the worked out Tynagh Deposit - a Waulsortian Reef breccia hosted deposit - 9.2 million tonnes, 5.0% Zinc / 6.2% Lead.

The region straddles the Tynagh-Ballinalack regional basement trend. The Moate area is dominated by structurally emplaced inliers of Navan Beds and ORS, with a half-horst morphology controlled by regional scale normal faulting displacing the northwestern margins. Target lies on the hangingwall side of these structures, where there are prospective well developed Waulsortian Reef and/or Navan Beds lithologies. The mineralisation discovered to date at Moate has been located within the Navan Beds on the footwall side of the controlling structures suggesting that they have acted as conduits for metal rich hydrothermal fluids.
